The North Philadelphia Star newspaper
newseum project
April 2, 2009

this paper uses large in your face graphics that stand out in the paper with the size of the font, the colors chosen and the subtitles used.

- the fonts are differnet and this creates something thats very appealing while keeping the paper credible looking

the photo in this pic show the subjects looking at the camera. this creates an image where there is an interaction with the reader and subject because both are looking at each other.this paper with its tabloidish look creates an image where the size of the fonts, the color used in the side of the paper, and the large photo create something eyecatching

February 12, 2009
- Lord and Taylor, and department store struggling like many in these tough economic times
- On a saturday, slow business is not uncommon to see.
- A lone associate in the background, waiting for customers.
- The many sale signs put in place to grab customers attention in hopes of buying.
- A larger sale sign in the middle of the aisle to advertise that there are deals in the store.
- An empty mall, where only a couple of shoppers who can afford to spend money do.
- An empty store in the mall that closed due to shrinking profits
- The future of stores like Lord & Taylor, other retailers, and malls across this country are in jeopardy in these tough economic times
Photo Essay link assignment

This photo essay comes from TIME.COM. Inside this photo essay, the focus is on New Orleans and its Mardi Gras celebration. I chose this photo essay because it captured powerful images of the city and damage the storm left behind. The photo’s also showed the damage left on some citizens of the city. However, this photo essay while showing the obvious damage left by Hurricane Katrina, also displays the images that the world knows New Orleans for. The Mardi Gras celebration and festival which occurs on the streets of the city is more than people having a good time, it is people sending a message to the world that they will move on, rebuild , and live their lives. For me this was a very powerful display of photogrphic images which pull on the human emotion, I hope it does the same for you.
