The picture used on the newspaper layout is eye-grabbing and provocative.  It is a creative choice for an article about smoking bans.

The pictures used are colorful and contrasting.  Everyone enjoys pictures in a tropical environment that remind them of vacations.  The alignment is also used effectively. They have the two main articles front and centered from right, while the less newsworthy articles are aligned to the left in a column.  The audience would know where to focus their eyes.

The picture with Blagojevich is creepy.  His facial expression evokes a possibility of sinister motives behind his suspiscious dealings.

This infographic includes both an interesting, universal concept and an eye-grabbing image. Anthropologists showed thousands of colors to mostly English-speaking individuals. The individuals identified the color in a general way, such as “green” or “brown,” or in a more creative way, such as “dark apple green” or baby poop.” They placed the color on the color wheel and created the graphic by shading into the other colors. This graphic is also interesting because it is not nearly as easy to create as it may look. The amount of time it took to place each color in the exact appropriate spot for shading probably took a great deal of eye-straining time

A Mouse Tale

 

The mouse emerges from the bushes and crawls through the metal bike stand.

 

As he scurries across the grass, the mouse makes his way through white, discarded piping lying on the ground.

 

The mouse notices a Mandarin Cranberry Yankee Candle car scent resting against the cyclone fence. Sadly, the car jar has lost its scent.

 

The cone seems cavernous and mountainous to the small rodent.

 

The mouse scampers cautiously across the pavement so as not to slice his paw on the shattered beer bottle.

 

He squeezes his way into the small space between the overflowing trash can and cyclone piping.

 

He hopes for a small drop of the sticky, sweet substance that he sometimes finds in these containers. But the Big Gulp is bone-dry.

He pokes his head out from a crack in the wall to see the expansive view and tall skyscrapers surrounding him.

 

As the sun sets, the little furry creature makes his way back to his small, grey, and humble home.

Photo Essay

This photo essay examines snowflake variations and the science behind the shapes.  The essay depicts the miniscule crystals’ patterns crisply and clearly.  It describes how snowflakes change into certain shapes based on the difference of a few degrees in temperature.
