Front Page Assignment
April 2, 2009

I chose this front page for its use of photos because they are of very good quality. The colors are quite saturated and stand out in front of the text. If the page caught my eye from a small thumbnail, that says something.
I chose this page for its use of graphics not only because there are a lot of them but because they are done well. The infographic at the top of the page drew me in right away and the graphic work added to the main photo puts emphasis on it and directs your eye over the page how I believe it was intended.

I chose the Wall Street Journal for its use of text and fonts because I tend to prefer a more serious tone to newspapers. There is enough contrast between the headlines and the text but everything is still very uniform.

Laura Standley’s Photo Story
February 13, 2009
- Weekend vacation by way of Lincoln Drive to a destination…
- …in my own city.
- Day One: First stop on the itinerary.
- RENT’s set doesn’t say much until the actors speak for it.
- RENT tickets: $80. One night at Club Quarters hotel on Chestnut Street: $85. Paying less than $100 per night in Center City: Priceless.
- Day Two: View from the Waterworks.
- The secret walkway by the Schuylkill river has residents.
- The “across the street” Art Museum was suprisingly fulfilling.
- Evidence.
- Heading home on Falls Bridge…probably the worst named bridge in history.
- Looking back, it was one of the better vacations. For a fraction of the cost.
Photo Essay
January 28, 2009
This is a photo essay from time magazine’s website about the Mural Program in Philadelphia. It shows some of the city’s most prominent and most important murals. I chose this essay to post as the one I really like because I am a former art major and used to create large mosaic murals. I always wanted to be part of one of Philly’s murals, but my painting skills aren’t exactly up to par…http://www.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1649278,00.html
